August 7, 1999

Well...moving day was supposed to be today, but yesterday - Aug. 6 - Michele went out to the house do to some final cleaning before move in and found a devastating sight. There was water coming through the ceiling into the two bedrooms, bathroom and hallway on the first floor. The second floor was flooded. A faulty connection to the faucet in the master bath was apparently to blame, though the plumber claimed to not find any definite cause. It must have been running for hours to do the damage it did. Most of the damage was confined to the flooring. The carpet was salvageable, but needed alot of attentions. The linoleum in the batrooms and the vinyl planking in the hallway and dining room needs to be replaced because water got under the subflooring it is attached to.

August 14, 1999

Spent this week cleaning up the mess from the water damage. I also took advantage of the extra time before moving in to do some trim work that was going to wait until later. I installed the interior doors which was to be the first item to do after move. in.

August 21, 1999

Move in is finally here!!! The insurance check finally came through and the flooring repairs were made - finishing up late Friday afternoon. Saturday was move in day. At last! It's been a long road and we still have much to do in the way of trim and finishing touches, but it feels wonderful to finally, after all the hard work and trials of the past few weeks and months to be actually living in our log house.
